4.9 liter / 300 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine ( CLOCKWISE , 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 , the marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine )
On the 5.0 liter / 302 cubic inch V8 ( COUNTERCLOCKWISE , 1 - 5 - 4 - 2 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 8 , the marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the REAR )
On the 5.8 liter / 351 cubic inch V8 ( COUNTERCLOCKWISE , 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 , the marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the REAR
On the 5.0 liter and the 5.8 liter V8 engines , the engine cylinder locations are numbered :

1 - 3 - 4 - 2 ( distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE )
1-3-4-2 ---------------------------------- and the distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE
1 - 3 - 4 - 2 ( the distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE )
hi the fire order is 1-3-4-2
1-3-4-2 Distributor rotates counterclockwise.
Change one at a time so not to mess up the firing order.
1-5-3-6-2-4 Clockwise distributor rotation
All V8 Chevrolet's are 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 with 1,3,5,7 on the left bank and 2,4,6,8 on the right with the distributor rotating clockwise.

The distributor position will have to be set by turning the engine to TDC and then make sure that the rotor button is pointed to #1 on the distributor cap. This should be indicated by a 1 stamped on top of the cap. As for the firing order, it should be 1-3-4-2 but it will be stamped on the intake manifold for verification.
