Which way thermal energy will flow when you hold a cup with hot drink in your hands?

It depends whether or not what you hold it with is warmer or cooler than the iced tea. In most cases it will probably be held in our hand which is likely to be warmer than the iced tea and so the thermal energy will flow from your hand, through the glass and then into the iced tea - warming it up. If whatever you are holding it with is colder then the thermal energy will move from the iced tea to the object with which you are holding it and the tea will cool down even more.

Is a cup of cocoa thermal energy?

changes from heat energy to mechanical energy because the heat from the hot cocoa is heat energy and mechanical energy is when you move your hand to get the cup or when u drink the hot cocoa

Are solar energy and thermal energy the same?

not at all. solar energy comes from the sun while on the other hand thermal energy is made from heat moving into a colder area. :]

When you touch a hot pot or pan energy moves from the pot to your hand what is it called?

The transfer of energy from the hot pot or pan to your hand is called heat transfer or thermal conduction. This occurs due to the temperature difference between the objects, causing the heat to flow from the hotter object (the pot) to the cooler one (your hand).

Is cold the opposite of thermal energy?

No. It's the absence of thermal energy.Similar to the situation where 'dark' is not a substance that you can generate, orhold in your hand, or put in a bottle. It's the absenceof something, called 'light'.Answer'Cold' is the opposite to 'hot', and describes temperature, not energy.

What is a thermal?

Thermal is a type of scientific term used in science. It is usually connected with a word so as an example: thermal energy = a type of energy or thermal socks = warm socks. Eventually you'll notice thermal has almost always something to do with heat and temperature. If you want to know what Thermal energy exactly is look up on this website .... all this asked for is " what thermal is"

When you hold a piece of ice in your handin which direction does heat energy folw?

Heat energy would flow from the hand to the ice, unless the hand is colder than the ice, in which case the heat energy would flow from the ice to the hand.

When Javier touches a hot mug of tea energy is transferred from the surface of the mug to his hand. What kind of energy is this?

The transfer of heat from cup to hand is known as conduction.

Is solar energy the same as solar thermal?

No. Solar power is not the same as thermal energy. Thermal energy is the random kinetic motion of microscopic molecule. Solar power on the other hand is derived from electromagnetic waves. For example: lets take a plant. If you put a plant in a dark room and heat the plant, the plant will still die even though it is supplied with thermal energy. However if you now add light(of specific wavelengths) the plant will thrive. So the plant can discern the difference between thermal energy and solar energy. Hope that helps

When you touch a cold object state whether heat energy flows from the object to your Hand or from your hand to the object?

Heat has the natural tendency to flow from a warmer to a colder object. If your hand is warmer than the "cold object", then heat will flow from your hand to that object.

Why is kinetic energy changed to thermal energy when you rub your hands together?

Because when you rub your hands together, it causes the molecules on your hand to move in random motion, which is thermal energy.
