Struts could of gone bad, otherwise its a miata....not meant for the hearty ones
A 1994 Mazda Miata's automatic transmission may slip in 4th gear if the bands are heavily worn. When the bands become worn, they are unable to grip properly and cause slippage.

On a Mazda MX-3 (1994) you need to tighten the adjustment bolt that is close to the fire wall. Tightening the bolt loosen the belt - loosening the bolt tightens the belt
The 1989-1993 Miata came with a 1.6L DOHC and made around 120 hp. The 1994-1998 Miata came with a 1.8L DOHC and made around 131 hp. The 1999-2005 Miata came with a (updated) 1.8L DOHC and made around 142 hp. The 2006-present Miata came with a 2.0L DOHC and made around 170 hp.
