Columbus felt that a sailing ship could reach Asia within months?

Christopher Columbus felt that a sailing ship could reach Asia within two months. He did believe that this was something that could only be accomplished however with favorable winds.

What were some of Christopher Columbus' accomplishments?

He was the first European to discover the Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Central America, and the northern coast of South America. Columbus also discovered a trade route across the Atlantic using winds that blow from east to west. (These winds today are called trade winds, and are still used by sea captains today.) Christopher Columbus began a chain of events that would lead to the settlement of the New World. Columbus showed others that a long sea voyage was possible and gave Spain an unexpected advantage in the coming race for riches and colonies. In 1492, Columbus was able to convince King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to finance his ships and voyage. On October 28, 1492, he and his ships successfully reach Cuba. In September, he established a settlement in the New World. In 1492, he became the first European to land in South America.

Did Christopher Columbus stop anywhere for supplies?

After sailing from Spain in 1492, he stopped for provisions at the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa (which were a Spanish colony and remain so today). From there, favorable winds brought him to Hispaniola in about 5 weeks.
