There were three routes to the USSR. First, was the northern route to Murmansk and Ark Angel. Second, was the southern route around Africa and then overland through Iran. Third was the Pacific route. This route extended from American west coast to Vladivostok. This proved to be the most important because the northern route had German combat ships and planes opposing it and Iran had a long voyage and difficult transportation. About half of Lend Lease shipments went over the third route.
