I've had 1991, 1998, and 2001 Explorers, all with the V-6, and all of them averaged in the 16-18 MPH range for city driving and 18-20 (occasionally a little higher) on the highway. Obviously, with all the variables such as weight, driving conditions, tire pressure, etc., that need to be taken into consideration, these figures are anecdotal only.
