Have the wheel alignment checked. If you've jacked up the suspension for better ground clearance you might have upset the steering geometry.
Try turning the steering wheel whilst turning the key, most peugeots have a built in steering lock.
its so that when you are turning greater angles, such as parking, the steering will turn much faster as the teeth on the rack decrease in pitch towards each end of the rack. However, the teeth in the centre of the rack increase in pitch, so the steering is not too sensitive whilst driving in a straight line, as this could be dangerous.

It is possible to damage the power steering pump by attempting to turn the wheel against an immovable object thereby over-stressing the the internal seals and/or other mechanical components.
bad bushings on the rack mount making it loose hence turning stering wheel will make it loose and bounce == Have the rack/box pipes been tampered with? Is it manual or power steering? Does this happen whilst driving or if the vehicle is stationery? www.powerbrakeandsteering.co.za
Needs a front end alignment
Type in COPTER whilst game is in play, this will result in you going straight through the vertical bars!
There is a knuckle joint on the steering column which needs greasing, apparently it's very common on the Mondys - my MK3 did it when I first got it (was worse on hot days). Local Ford dealer greased it up for me. Might be this!
Hi, you probably have an airlock in the system, if you bleed the system by putting steering on a full lock whilst vehicle is running both ways and rock it slightly this should eventually release the air.
It should tell you in the handbook. For the SLK it is turn the steering from lock to lock whilst the engine is running. May be the same for other Mercedes.
Take the plastic engine cover off [just clips on] SF reservoir is one with white dot on it just in front of the oil filler cap. fill with steering fluid between min and max mark. Do whilst engine is cold
