On the back of a car there are tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights. Cars also have back up lights that tell people when the car is in reverse.

White Lights on the Rear of a VehicleMost traffic codes [laws] are very specific that no lights on the rear of a vehicle be any color other than red or amber. However, there are two exceptions and they are:White lights to illuminate the license plate commonly called license plate lamps.White lights which only come on when the transmission is in reverse gear and these are called "Backup" lights.
Reverse light switch failure
On the power unit, the only requirements are that there be two stop/turn/marker lights in red on the rear. Additional lights may be added if the owner so wishes. On the trailer, there has to be at least seven across the back.. these will typically be a combination of stop/turn/marker lights and clearance lamps. The only white lights will be the reverse lamps, and, depending on make and model of truck, there might be one or two.
check fuses, check bulbs, from there see if there is a grond for your reverse lights that may need cleaning. If still no lights, make sure there is a good wire back to the transmission for your lights. Still no luck, look into the sensor on tranny for your reverse lights. Good luck.
Open Tailgate. Remove two screws on back side of lights, Carefully pull light outward.
