The original Zodiac* was never caught. *Zodiac had at least three copycat killers using the Zodiac name.
These killers are known as sadists or sadistic killers. The more the victim suffers the better these killers like it. Thank goodness the sadistic serial killer makes up only a small percentage of all serial murderers.

There is no denying that post WWII America was innundated with serial killers, the Zodiac was just one of many in a growing problem of stranger murder. The Zodiac got his share of press coverage, mostly due to his ciphers sent to police and press. He was unlike any other serial killer to date. The fact that he was not caught just added to the mystery of Zodiac. Almost half of a century since his crimes began, Zodiac is still one of the most recognized serial killers in history.
Killers may defecate at a crime scene as a result of intense emotions like fear, stress, or a desire to exert dominance over the victim. This behavior can also be a way for the perpetrator to degrade the victim or create a sense of chaos and power.
It depends on which Zodiac your talking about. The original Zodiac from California, or the several killers that took the name after him. If Robert Graysmith (author of Zodiac and Zodiac:Unmasked) is correct, the California killer, Arthur Leigh Allen's parents were Ethan and Bernice Allen of Vallejo CA. The New York Zodiac, Eddie Seda, mother's name Carmen Gladys Alvarado.
The first Zodiac attack killed Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on Lake Herman Road in Benicia, California on December 20, 1968. The last officially recognized murder was of San Francisco Yellow Cab driver Paul Lee Stine on October 11, 1969. However, Zodiac claimed responsibility for the murder of Cheri Jo Bates on October 30, 1966 in Riverside, California. That was the first ever unsolved murder in the history of Riverside. The Riverside Police Department does not believe that was done by Zodiac. However the RPD's prime suspect was cleared through DNA testing. There are 5 confirmed Zodiac murders but in a letter sent in 1974 Zodiac claimed 37 victims.
Except for the fact that they were both serial killers that were never identified or caught they have nothing to do with each other.
Yes, some serial killers do not have a specific victim type. They may target people of different ages, genders, or backgrounds, making it more difficult for investigators to establish a clear pattern. These killers may be driven by a desire for power and control rather than a specific preference for a certain type of victim.
