The British taxed everything they could think of that we bought or sold. They even taxed paper and legal document stamps. They controlled everything and were tightening up on the Colonies but were still not willing to allow the Colonists who considered themselves British subjects, a right to be represented in Parliament. We would probably still be talking funny if they allowed a token representative in Government.
