Ophelia loves Hamlet and is devastated by his rejection of her--it is one reason she loses her mind.

Gertrude also loves Hamlet; this becomes apparent in the Closet scene, and her behaviour afterwards.

Hamlet unfortunately does not return either of their loves with the intensity with which they give it.

What type of love be found in hamlet as a play?

Although love fails often in Hamlet, there is much love in the play. Ophelia loves Hamlet, Gertrude loves Hamlet, and despite his anger, Hamlet loves Gertrude. Hamlet also loves his father dearly, and this love prompts, in part, his desire for revenge. There is also love between friends, as seen in the relationship between Hamlet and Horatio.

Who is laertes in Shakespeare?

What was the name of Hamlets mother?

Hamlet's mother is Gertrude. She is the queen of Denmark and is married to Claudius. She was originally married to Old Hamlet before he was murdered by Claudius. Gertrude is a weak woman that needs a man around her (ie. her quick marriage to Claudius). Gertrude loves Hamlet dearly, but also watches as Hamlet is sent away to his death.

Is Hamlet respected by his peers in the play?

Horatio is a fellow student of Hamlet's who clearly loves him. Laertes is a Dane of about Hamlet's age, although of less exalted birth. Hamlet respects him and calls him "a most noble youth", while Laertes says of Hamlet's apology to him, "I am satisfied in nature" although it is difficult to believe anything he says at this stage. Fortinbras is probably as close to a peer as Hamlet has in the play, and he says "he was likely, had he been put on, to have proved most royal". While we do not know what Fortinbras's basis was for such a statement it surely confirms that Fortinbras respected Hamlet.
