Well I read that Mitt Romney is a Mormon for one of the 2008 Presidential compain. He is a republican. My History teacher said that they should start asking religion questions in the compains so people know what kind of religon the canidaits are. Obama is also a muslum, he turned his back to the flag at the opening cerimonies for the new President of the United States of America. That is what made me very mad because I thought he was going to become the President.
Louis Compain died in 1790.

Many people remember Mormons for the pioneer trek in the mid-1800's. This has caused some misconceptions of people thinking that Mormons are similar to the Amish, but modern Mormons do not dress like pioneers or travel in horse-drawn wagons.

Some early Mormons were poor and some were quite wealthy. Some left a great deal of wealth to join the Church. Some lived in large brick homes and others in small wooden shacks. The financial situation of early Mormons was pretty much the same as it is today - some are rich and some are poor. The Church itself was much poorer then than it is now.
Historically, Mormons were persecuted by being kicked out of their homes and chased out of their settlements, some were even killed. Today, persecution against Mormons is much less brutal. Typically they are only persecuted by harsh words and negative attitudes, although occassionally their homes or churches are vandalized. You can check out some examples of how Mormons have been persecuted historically and in modern times at the "Related Links" below.
Most people do not hate Mormons, the Osmonds are very popular Mormons singing family. The State of Utah hosted the Winter Olympics a few years ago. Some people do dislike the idea of a man having more than one wife at a time (or the idea of a woman having more than one husband at a time), and some Mormons men have more than one wife. On the whole Mormons who have one spouse at a time are very popular.
