On May 20, 1782, twenty-one year old, Deborah Sampson enlisted in the Fourth Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Army at Bellingham as a man named Robert Shurtleff. She severed in the military until October 25, 1783 when she was founded to not be a man and honorably discharged from the military.
She was the first women to enlist in the U.S. military, she served until she came down with a fever and was hospitalized. There is where she was found to be a woman.
One of the most famous women in the Civil war was Amy Clarke. She served in the Calvary and the infantry units. Some others are Albert Cashier AKA Jennie (Irene) Hodger, Annie Ethridge- she was a battlefield nurse, Kate Warne - she was the first Female Private Investigator.
