The Saducees were something like a political party in Roman occupied Judea. The name is anglicized from the Hebrew "Tzadookim' named after Tzadok, the first High Priest to serve in Solomon's Temple. They were the party of the priests and the upper crust leadership in Jerusalem. They believed that perpetuating the sacrificial rituals of the Temple was their highest obligation, and this required cooperation with Rome. In effect, they became collaborators with the Roman occupation because they understood that any disruptions were likely to precipitate Roman intervention that would endanger the Temple. (They were right, in the year 68, the zealots revolted, leading Rome to destroy the Temple in the year 70. That was the end of the Saducees.)
To be honest I think it was more of a case of 'Why Did The Sadducee's Not get on with Jesus?' Or is it the same thing??
The Sadducee's

The Sadducee's did not believe in the resurrection. The party of the Sadducee's consisted of wealthy priests and their friends in the aristocracy. They collaborated with the Romans and tried to maintain the status quo, lest they lose their position of leadership. They were religiously conservative in that they accepted the authority of the five books of Moses but not of the prophets and other later writings.
