Prior to the release of the The Golden Compass on December 7, 2007, New Line said that an adaptation of The Subtle Knife would go into production only if the first film was a success. The Golden Compass did well world wide, however it flopped in the US making the making of the film The Subtle Knife unclear.There will not be a Subtle Knife film, there would be no reason to making a sequel to a bad film.
