Attending college is an expensive step in life. Most of a college student’s money must be applied toward textbooks, tuition and various other campus and activity fees. Food is a necessity and often many students prefer to keep snacks and drinks in a dorm refrigerator. Unfortunately these students may return from class to find their refrigerator empty; if their wallet is empty too, this could be problematic and frustrating. To avoid their refrigerator being emptied, college students should install a lock on it. This simple and inexpensive process involves:1. Purchasing SuppliesThis project will require a large single-hinge hasp, metal epoxy glue and a padlock that will fit the size of loop chosen in the hasp. Those who do not have a pencil or simple cleaning solution should purchase these items as well.2. Positioning First Hasp PieceBefore beginning the process, the surfaces of the hasp pieces and refrigerator should be cleaned and allowed to dry. The larger piece should be placed on the door of the refrigerator so that the loop holder hangs past the narrow part of the door. With a pencil, the outline of this piece should be traced precisely where it will be glued on to the refrigerator, preferably in the middle section.3. Mixing EpoxyMetal epoxy should be mixed according to the exact directions on the package. Once the epoxy is ready, it should be applied to the surface area of the fridge outlined in the first hasp piece; additionally a small amount may be placed on the back of the first hasp piece. The first piece should be applied to the exact spot it was traced and held until it stays in place.4. Applying Second Hasp PieceThe smaller piece of the hasp that includes the loop should be applied on the side of the refrigerator. In order to do this, the piece should be looped through the piece that is already on the fridge and held, then glue should be applied to the back. Carefully the piece should be guided until it sticks to the side of the fridge. This method is simple and will provide an exact fit.
