Who are the important leaders or prophets in Buddhism?

As regards prophets - Prophets are individuals sent by a deity
to convey a message or mission. Buddhism has no deity, hence no
prophets. Buddhism is a nonprofit organization.
As regards leaders - Buddhism is not unified as a one stream
organization, It is divides into several major streams and numerous
sects. Like Christians, there is no one living leader that speak
for all believers. There are several leaders such as the Dalai Lama
who are both well known and are leaders of sects, but they have no
control or leadership over Buddhism in general. As to "important "
leaders, each group regards their leader as important.

Is there a leader of Buddhism?

Except that all Buddhists trace their beliefs back to Buddha
there is no one leader of "World Buddhism" any more than there is
one leader of "World Christianity". Each sect and division has its
own leader (e.g. The Dalai Lama is a high lama in the Gelug or
"Yellow Hat" branch of Tibetan Buddhism)
Answer:
The leaders of Buddhism are the teachings of the Buddha and the
disciples of the Buddha, those who follow exactly and faithfully
these teachings in a united manner.
So, if you follow exactly the teachings of the Buddha, then
you are one of the leaders of the Buddhism.

Who are the religious leader in Buddhism?

Generally, in Buddhism, the question of a deity is irrelevant -
so many do not consider it to be a religion, per se, moreover it is
a philosophy. A way to live our lives & strengthen of
minds.
That being said, our leaders are our Teachers. Being Dharma
Instructors or Zen Masters. Often people believe that His Holiness
the Dali Lama is the leader of Buddhism. This is an inaccurate
statement, as he is the leader-in-exile of Tibet & of the Gelug
or "Yellow Hat" branch of Tibetan Buddhism, not all Tibetan
Buddhism. . Often believed to be the reincarnation of
Avalokiteshavara - the Bodhisattva of compassion.
This makes Buddhism similar to Judaism, Islam and Christianity
where there is no singe leader, just leaders of sects and
groups.

What is a Buddhist priest called?

The use of the term priest in regard to the leaders of Buddhism
is misleading. Priest implies a person dedicated to a god and the
advancement of that god's agenda. Buddhism has no god - each person
is on their own to reach enlightenment. Fortunately there are
teachers and leaders who pass on the thoughts and learnings of
previous scholars to help Buddhists understand the course they
should set for their lives to minimize pain and suffering and be
more skillful in their interactions with others. The leaders of
Buddhism could be called monks, lamas, rinpoches, nuns or
teachers.
