The reaping is an event that happens in the town square of each district, in which 2 tributes are chosen from the ages of 12-18 ~ one male, one female ~ to go and fight to the death in an outdoor arena. One thing about this that really angers Katniss is that the whole event is televised, so every person in every district can watch it. In the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss's little sister, Prim, is chosen as female tribute, but Katniss volunteers for her. The male tribute reaped is Peeta Mellark, the baker's son.
The final six tributes in "The Hunger Games" series are Katniss Everdeen from District 12, Peeta Mellark from District 12, Finnick Odair from District 4, Johanna Mason from District 7, Beetee Latier from District 3, and Haymitch Abernathy, who is not a tribute but plays a crucial role. Each of these characters brings unique skills and backgrounds to the competition, contributing to the dynamics of the story.

Six month after the Hunger Games, the victor goes on a tour across the districts starting from 12 up to 1. The winner's district is skipped until the end (though I'm not syre if this is before or after the visit to the Capitol) and then they have a huge feats that every member of the district can go to. This is known as the Harvest Festival
*SPOILERS*In Catching Fire, Peeta and Katniss compete in the 3rd Quarter Quell for the Hunger Games. The forece-field that surrounds the arena is destroyed by Katniss and five or six of the remaining tributes are brought to district 13. Peeta is captured by the capitol where his brain is altered by tracker jacker venom.
