well the food chain goes like this the producers make their own food and then the consumers eat them when it reaches the top level consumers they die and the decomposers eat them ,but if the decomposers die what will the middle class consumers eat so the middle class consumers will die out,but then the top class consumers have to eat the smaller and lower consumers which is not enough for them so now all the lower consumers will get eaten and die+the top class consumers will dievof hunger. thus if the decomposers were removed from the energy pyramaind it will affect almost all of the ecosystem.
"The Aquasana water filter is high quality. Many consumers have posted positive reviews in support of the filter, and it has been rated one of the top water filters around."
Animals are usually at the top of a food chain. This is because they are consumers. Producers (plants) are at the bottom of the food chain. The producers are consumed by the primary consumers (herbivores) who are then consumed by the secondary consumers ( carnivores ).
If you mean that can tertiary and quaternary consumers both be carnivores, then yes, they can be. The quaternary consumers are probably at the top of the food chain as there are rarely any more than 4 - 5 trophic levels. This is because it would be pointless as there would be very little energy left for the top consumer. If you actually mean what you said literally in the question then the top consumer can eat carnivores but it is highly unlikely that the tertiary consumer will eat carnivores - they usually eat omnivores (secondary consumers) who eat herbivores (primary consumers) who eat producers (e.g. plants).
Why are there fewer top level consumers than lower level consumers
primary consumers -->secondary consumers -->tertiary consumers
No, they are top predators or tertiary consumers.

Some tertiary consumers in fresh water may include fresh water alligators, snapping turtles, and large fish.
The top such Internet tool as rated by consumers in 2012 was Duck Duck Go. Also in the top 10 were Dogpile, Ask, Bing, Webopedia, Google, Yahoo, and Mahalo.
