When was the US discovered?

the vikings discovered America. i know people say cristopher colombus did but the viking really did. you see, vikings came here way before christopher Columbus was even born. the vikings came in the 900's and cris Columbus came in th 1400's.

So if Columbus didn't really discover America who did?

The same place can be "discovered" by many people if they didn't know about it. In the case of North America, there were already people here, and several separate groups "discovered" America over the course of several centuries. Chinese mariners had landed in what is now California in the 1400s, and on the European side, both the Irish and the Vikings had made it to North America before Columbus did. Columbus gets credit for sharing the word of his discoveries with the world, which no one before him had done. Vikings but actually jaradites Really it was The Doctor

What year was America discovered?

If your trying to answer a question in elementary school test, then the answer is:America was discovered by Christopher Columbus in the year 1492. However, this is a trick question. According to many Europeans, America was discovered in 1492. Although, what was really discovered were the islands of the Caribbean. Of course, at the time, they didn't call it America but the 'Far East,' which is what they were looking for in the first place. But if you think about it, there were already people here already, so by definition, they had already discovered America. It's kinda like walking into your neighbors house and saying, 'Hey I discovered this house.' The people who were here already came here 10-20 thousand years earlier. They came from Asia over the bearing straight. Actually, for that matter, Columbus wasn't even the first European to discover America, as there is much evidence that the Vikings actually came to America about 500 years earlier. So, really, the question is faulty. The real question should be: What year was America Discovered the second known time by White Europeans who were apparently unaware of the fact that hundreds of thousands of Asians discovered it 20 thousand years earlier.

What did Columbus discover and what year did he discover it?

As the 2nd grade ditty goes, "In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue (e.g. the Atlantic Ocean)..." He discovered North America, but not really since the Vikings and Native Americans got here first.
