Best Answer

John Mauchly and Presper Eckert.

They based the machine's architecture and programming system on Vannevar Bush's mechanical analog Differential Analyzer at MIT and "stole" the idea for digital processing from John Vincent Atanasoff in Ames, Iowa. The decimal accumulators used ring counters acting as an electronic implementation of the wheels of the adding machines in use at the time.

ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer, was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was the first Turing-complete, digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems,[3] although earlier machines had been built with some of these properties. ENIAC was designed and built to calculate artillery firing tables for the U.S. Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory. The ENIAC held immediate importance. When it was announced in 1946 it was heralded in the press as a "Giant Brain." It boasted speeds one thousand times faster than electro-mechanical machines, a leap in computing power that since then has typically taken fifteen years rather than just three. This mathematical power, coupled with general-purpose programmability, excited scientists and industrialists. The inventors promoted the spread of these new ideas by teaching a series of lectures on computer architecture.

John Mauchly & J. Presper Eckert. However Mauchly based significant parts of the inventions on prior art developed but not patented by John V. Atanasoff. This eventually caused the patents on the invention of ENIAC to be declared invalid.

Several people, some were:

  1. J. Presper Eckert (ENIAC system)
  2. Thomas Kite Sharpless (master programmer)
  3. Jack Davis (accumulators)
  4. Robert F. Shaw (function tables)
  5. Chuan Chu (divider/square-rooter)
  6. Arthur Burks (multiplier)
  7. Harry Huskey (reader/printer)

Dr John Mauchly and J Presper Eckert?

They created the ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator And Calulator). When the ENIAC was first turned on the city of PA to experience blowouts.

How many transistors did the ENIAC have?

Eniac didn't have any transistors. It was built with 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7,200 crystal diodes, and a whole host of other components. But no transistors. The first transistor was created in November, 1947, almost two years after Eniac was completed.

Was the eniac computer the first computer to be created?

No, the following digital computers preceded ENIAC: Harvard Mark I, ABC, Zuse Z1 & Z2 & Z3, Colossus Mark 1 & Mark 2. Also many analog computers preceded these. However ENIAC was the first general purpose programmable electronic digital computer.
