Anyone can use a family tree and there are many uses for family trees. However, most people keep their family trees private because of personal history, names, birthdates, birthplaces, addresses, and confidential medical information. They share them only with their family members.

Family trees are useful for informational purposes, for documenting inherited medical and genetic conditions, for helping resolve lawsuits over inheritances, and for preserving family stories and history. They contain wonderful stories about family members and help younger generations get to know their ancestors on a personal level.

Everyone can use family trees. Access to family trees, however, is not all that easy unless you or a family member has created one.
