That amendment to the U. S. Constitution (the 17th) was ratified by 40 of the 48 states of 1912, when it was approved by Congress. The state that ratified it most recently was Maryland, which did so in April 2012. The following states did not ratify it:

It is stipulated in the body of the Constitution, Article I, Sec. 3, clause 1; it is not an Amendment. Originally, it was the State Legislatures that chose Senators, now it is the people of the State, by direct vote.
