Best Answer

Asterix is both the hero and the title of a series of comic style books by the French writers Goscinny and Uderzo. They are set in Gaul, which is now France, in 50 BC during the reign of the Roman Empire. Asterix lives in a small village on the coast of Britanny, where he and his friends attempt to repel the Roman invaders with the help of the magic potions brewed up by their druid, Getafix.

There are currently 34 books in the Asterix series, and there have also been animated and live action films made, several Video Games and even a theme park, Parc Astérix, in Plailly in the département of Oise.

Asterix is a French hero, and the writers, Goscinny and Uderzo are France's biggest selling authors internationally.

Asterix should not be confused with an asterisk, which is this punctuation mark *
