There's not really such a thing as "your" inheritance. It seems a strong myth in our culture that just by being someone's offspring you are somehow entitled to an inheritance.

The property belongs to the owner. The owner will decide who he/she wishes to leave the property to, and write that down in a will. Whoever that person is, they will have an "inheritance".

In the event that no will is drawn up, the owner's property will be divided by the State amongst the spouse and children of the owner.

Your inheritance is typically determined by the will of the deceased person. They may specify in their will who will receive their assets and how they will be distributed. If there is no will, the laws of the jurisdiction in which the deceased person lived will determine how the inheritance is allocated among their heirs.

Can executors renounce in favor of a family member who is not a beneficiary in the will?

The executor cannot "renounce or disclaim" the inheritance of any beneficiary. That can only be done voluntarily by the person who decides to disclaim their own inheritance and there are certain forms that must be used, signed and filed with the estate. The executor cannot "renounce or disclaim" the inheritance of any beneficiary.
