There is no historical evidence that Cleopatra was even with her father when he was in Rome. It is just speculation on the part of some historians. However her father would have been housed in a wealthy person's home or villa, as he was a royal visitor. Now here is where facts are very fuzzy. Her father was supposed to be begging for money, trying to get financial backing in order to get his throne back. He was supposed to have been turned down and treated disrespectfully and was forced to live in squalid surroundings. He was also said to have given expensive gifts as bribes to the Roman money lenders and to have generally spread wealth around. During this time he also gave a gift of bronze doors to the temple at Ephesus. This does not sound like a poor man who would be forced to live in a slum. He was more than likely housed by a wealthy person while he was on his mission.
