Ronald Reagan was the president and he sent Oliver North in the make the deal. North took the blame for Reagan.
Because he was very charming and, despite all of the mistakes he mad, blame never stuck to him
President Reagan himself, for careless management of his subordinates.
He was called "the teflon president" because criticism and blame never seemed to "stick" to him.
Everyone essentially. Especially from Reagan-Obama.
Much of the blame for the Depression was placed unfairly on President Hoover. President Calvin Coolidge was to blame for part of the Depression.
He did most of the damaging himself by admitting that he had no knowledge at all - but should have had - about the so-called Iran-Contra affair: large-scale illegal arms deals with Iran, the proceeds to be used for equally illegal armed support for the anti-communist "Contra" rebels in Nicaragua.Eleven people were finally indicted for illegal dealings, most prominently Col. Oliver North and Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, but many suspect them of simply having taken the blame for President Reagan. All of them were pardoned by the then Vice President George Bush when he became president as Reagan's successor.
He didn't need to do it, all the world had understood the fact.
Late in the Reagan Administration, it was discovered a political military group in Nicaragua called the Contras were fighting a guerrilla war against what seemed to be a communist regime. In secret the US was supplying arms to the Contras based on monies received from Iran. It was called the Iran-Contra scandal. A key figure in this illegal operation, a Major Oliver North took full blame for this misadventure. By doing so, the Reagan White House escaped blame.
Anything red or white but who could ever blame her for too much of it she looked great in it.
