The word Renaissance means re-birth. As far as art goes, the Renaissance was a time of great opulence. Artists learned how to portray humans in paintings with exact proportions and incredible details and use of light. This was learned by some of the greats by studying cadavers and using mathematic principals.
There have been many famous nude paintings throughout history. They include fine pieces such as Francisco de Goya y Lucentes' "La Maja Desnuda" (The Nude Maja), Sandro Botticelli's "Nascita di Vernere (The Birth of Venus), and Rembrandt van Rijn's "Bathsheba with King David's Letter" (or "Bathsheba at her Bath").
In the Renaissance times a Renaissance Woman was supposed to marry well, be loyal to her husband and give birth to boys. A Renaissance Man, on the other hand, had to be well-educated, have cultural grace, be a gentleman and understand the arts and sciences. He also had to have refinement, be of noble birth and have courage. Many women did not fit the mold of what they called a "Renaissance Woman." Many of them would fit in as more of a "Renaissance Man" or what we would call a "Renaissance Woman" in our day and age.

It would be difficult to list all of the works attributed to Botticelli here, one of his most recognizable paintings is 'The Birth of Venus' circa 1482, approximately 5 feet 8 inches by 9 feet 1 inch. Between 1481 and 1483 Botticelli and several other famous artists were summoned to Rome to decorate the walls of the newly completed Sistine Chapel.
