Its really hard to say. Experts believe essential oils were discovered in Bulgaria thousands of years ago. At the time Bulgaria had a bustling industry of alcohol distilleries, and its believed that someone got a bit clever and decided to throw in some additions which contained essential oils. It makes since. The process is very similar and Bulgaria is famous for producing many oils, including the very expensive Rose Otto.
