Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama also known as; Gautama Buddha, the Historical Buddha or simply Buddha. He was born into a noble family in Lumbini, an area that today lies in the South of Nepal. He lived and taught across Northern India and Southern Nepal between 560BCE - 480BCE. Modern historians are not in agreement over the precise date of his birth but it was around the year 500BCE.
