Who discovered the disease hemophilia?

Hemophilia was discovered by a physician from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania named John Conrad Otto. He is credited to be the first to have discovered this genetic disorder back in 1803. He described the condition as hereditary, which affected males more compared to females. He also tried to find out what was the source of this disease found his way to a woman who lived in Plymouth some time in 1720. In 1828, the term 'hemophilia' was first used at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.

What is the difference between Hemophilia A and Hemophilia B?

There are two types of hemophilia: hemophilia A (sometimes called classical hemophilia) and hemophilia B (sometimes called Christmas disease). Both are caused by a low level or absence of one of the proteins in the blood (called factors) that control bleeding. Hemophilia A is caused by a deficiency of factor VIII, and hemophilia B is caused by a deficiency of factor IX. There is no difference between the two types of hemophilia, except that hemophilia B is about five times less common than hemophilia A.
