Best Answer

Indian languages have three distinct origins:

1. Indo- Aryan (Indo European origin): most north region languages

2. Indo -Burmese: most eastern region languages

3. Proto -Dravidian :most south region languages.

The need for linguistic division began when British historians & linguistics studies the sociological -historical origin & structure of the Indian population.
