Buddhists(Most buddhists if practicing correctly) do not worship any person or deity, including Shakyamuni Buddha (The historical Buddha). If it could be said that Buddhism worships anything it would be 'life itself' or the 'law'(dharma). Buddha does not necessarily refer to Buddha the man but rather means 'awakened one' or 'one who has attained the way'. Therefore Buddha was an ordinary human being who manifested his inherent ability for enlightenment that all people possess.
