This is a good question. Most people will honor all of the men and women that had fought and died in all of our wars throughout time. Some other people will honor anyone who has died. To remember them.

∙ 11y agoMemorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It was first observed on May 30, 1868 to honor all of the military who had died during the US Civil War, both Union and Confederate. After World War I the holiday was expanded to honor all military who had died during any war in which the United States was involved.
