Saul is in I Samuel. David picks up at the end of I Samuel and continues through all of II Samuel. Solomon starts near the beginning of I Kings and continues for about half of the book. Saul and David are also covered in I Chronicles, and Solomon at the beginning of II Chronicles.
1 Samuel 17:1-58
The prophet Samuel was the last of the Judges. He wrote the Books of Ruth, Judges, and most of the book of Samuel (Talmud, Bava Bathra 14b). He anointed the first two kings (Saul and David). He assisted King David in planning for the building of the Temple.
David's reign is mainly discussed in II Samuel, although there is a little bit about it at the end of I Samuel.

According to David Boaz in his book, "The Libertarian Reader", 1 Samuel 8 in the Bible was the first such "essay". The Jewish people wanted a King and according to Samuel, God did not wish them to have one.
