In this passage, God instructs the prophet Samuel to anoint David as the future king of Israel, as Saul has been rejected due to his disobedience. The Bible. 1 & 2 Samuel would be a good bet.
The ninth book in the Old Testament of the Bible is the Book of 1 Samuel. It follows the story of Samuel, Saul, and David, detailing the transition from the period of Judges to the establishment of the Israelite monarchy.
1 Samuel is up until the death of Saul, while David's kingship has yet to be firmly established; and 2 Samuel is after the death of Saul, when David gradually takes the helm of all twelve Israelite tribes. That is the only difference, since the original crowning (anointing) of David, and (later) Samuel's death, are well before the end of 1 Samuel.
