Plenty of people do flower Photography. I am one of the many :)
There are several good sources where one can learn about flower photography. Some good starting points would be for example the "JohnHarveyPhoto" tutorial or the course at "BetterPhoto".

Time-lapse photography allows us to actually watch a flower bloom.
Time=lapse photography allows you to see small, incremental changes in a short period of time. For instance, you can see a flower grow from seed to full bloom in a matter of seconds rather than weeks!
There are a few rules to follow when taking pictures of flowers. Some of the best and easiest to remember are to get down on your knees to better focus on the subject. Isolate the flower and use a contrasting background.

Backlighting photography involves positioning the light source behind the subject, creating a silhouette effect. Examples include a person standing in front of a sunset, a flower with sunlight shining through its petals, and a tree with the sun shining through its leaves.
Some popular photography hobbies that people enjoy include landscape photography, portrait photography, wildlife photography, street photography, and macro photography.

Well this is something people don't often think about... It wont exactly blind the hamster but it can damage its eyesight and scare it badly!! I would suggest put your camera on "flower photography" and put your hamster in a spot that isn't too dark or bright. It will make the perfect Christmas Card!
