Actually, it is understandable that some people would wonder about the relationship between Osama bin Laden and the United States, since during the 1970s, America did in fact give financial and military support to him and other so-called "Freedom Fighters," in the hope that they would defeat our then-enemy, the Soviet Union, which was fighting in Afghanistan. Beginning in the late 1990s, and continuing into the 2000s, there have been some reports from credible sources, including the BBC and CNN, that the CIA was involved in this operation, never once anticipating that Bin Laden would later turn against the United States.
