Yes because he went against the church. The church believed everything revolved around the Earth, but Galileo said everything revolved around the sun.
galileo was forced to stop studying astronomy after his claim that the earth moved round the sun. He was correct of course but this went against the christian teachings at the time as they believed that everything revolved around the earth

Russia was the first in space where they went around the earth a few times but USA was the first on the moon. The first to send three into space though, was the USA.
They believed it was like a giant plane, and that if you went too far toward the horizon you would fall off the edge of the earth.
because they thought that if a boat went across the water or out of sight they went of the end of the earth there was no proof of the earth being round in ancient times..
