Odysseus finds a land which is so far from the sea that they have near seen an oar paddle. There he builds a shrine to Poseidon.
After Zeus destroys Odysseus' ship, Odysseus drifts on a raft for ten days until he arrives on Calypso's island. The rest of his crew drown. After Odysseus sets sail on a raft from Calypso's island, he drifts for twenty days until he reaches Scheria, the land of the Phaecians, and is forced to swim to shore, drifting for three days towards the island before he reaches it.
Odysseus reaches the land of the Phaeacians and their kind king, Alcinoüs. The king’s daughter, Nausicaä, finds Odysseus, naked and filthy from sleeping on the ground, and leads him to the king. Received warmly, Odysseus tells the story of his wanderings.
The cyclops Polyphemus from The Odyssey appears in book nine. Odysseus and his men land the island of the Cyclopes and finds a cave filled with food and other provisions. Polyphemus returns and finds Odysseus and his men in the cave and ultimately kills six men. When Polyphemus falls asleep, Odysseus drives a stake into his eye and escapes.
This depends on which instance you are speaking of. Odysseus wakes up on several islands, including Scheria, land of the Phaecians; Ogygia, Calypso's island; and Ithaca, his home island. On Scheria, and Ogygia he is glad to be alive and curious about his surroundings. On Ithaca, he is curious about his surroundings, and mildly doubtful that he is in Ithaca. He feels betrayed by the Scherians who promised to take him home, since he does not recognize Ithaca after twenty years.
