Colonel Paul Tibbets.
Paul Tibbets flew the Enola Gay and dropped the atomic bomb upon the Japanese city of Hiroshima whereas pilot Charles Sweeney flew Bockscar and bombed Nagasaki with a nuclear weapon .
The bombers that dropped both atomic bombs flew from the island of Tinian. This was also the base for bombers that flew many of the "thousand plane" firebombing attacks every night (each of which did similar damage to the atomic bombs).
The Enola Gay, the plane which dropped the bomb, was accompanied by two other planes, The Great Artiste and Necessary Evil.

"Little Boy" was the codename of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 by the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets of the 393d Bombardment Squadron, Heavy, of the United States Army Air Forces.
The plane that dropped the bomb on Nagasaki flew from an island in the Pacific, not from the continental United States.

Enola Gay is the name of the U.S. Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped the atomic bomb, "Little Boy," on Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945. It was flown by Colonel Paul Tibbets.Bockscar is the name of the U. S. Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped the the atomic bomb, "Fat Man," on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The name, which is painted on the aircraft is a pun on "boxcar," after the name of the aircraft's commander, Captain Frederick C. Bock. For this mission, however, it was Major Charles Sweeney who flew Bockscar. Some official and unofficial documents have mistakenly called the plane Bock's Car, Bocks Car and Boxcar over the years.See Sources and related links for additional information and a photo of Bockscar.
There were two such missions over Japan. The first was commanded by Colonel Paul Tibbets, who flew the B-29 bomber, Enola Gay, and dropped the atomic bomb, "Little Boy," on Hiroshima. The second mission was commanded by Major Charles Sweeney, who flew the B-29 bomber, Bockscar, and dropped the atomic bomb, "Fat Man," on Nagasaki.
Col Paul Tibbets of the 509th Composite Bombardment Group based on Tinian island in the Pacific. The name of the modified B-29 Aircraft was the Enola Gay. For historical record there was not one, but two bombs dropped. Tibbets flew the first mission and dropped I think "Fat Boy" on Hiroshima and another pilot flew a second mission that dropped Little Man on Nagasaki.
