The powers that conquered the Jewish people in Israel did not put

themselves to the trouble of forbidding worship in the Holy Temple.

That would have required monitoring and enforcement. It was much

quicker and easier to simply defile and wreck the Temple itself, which

is what they invariably did. The best examples are the Syrian Greeks

and the Romans.
