The Punic Wars (punic = Phoenician, the Carthaginians were a Phoenician people) were between Rome and Carthage. There were three of them. Rome won all three, eventially putting an end to the problem by levelling Carthage and selling its people into slavery in 146 BCE.

The Punic Wars were fought by Rome and Carthage; Rome won.

We know this by the fact Rome became the most powerful city in the Mediterranean area for the next six centuries; Carthage was destroyed, and their fields sown with salt. The ruins of ancient Carthage lie abandoned in the desert sands of North Africa.
