Poliomyelitis as two vaccines: Jonas Salk developed the first in 1952 and used first in 1955. This vaccine used an inactive virus. Albert Sabin developed an attenuated vaccine which was available in 1962. The Salk vaccine was given by injection and the Sabin by mouth.
The idea and creation of a smallpox vaccine greatly impacted our views of science today. The creation of the vaccine has enabled people to live longer and healthier lives and enabled new studies in this area of science. This was also the first vaccine to be made and this lead to study on more ways different vaccines combat other diseases such as chicken pox etc. This is my first response so it may be a bit lacking in structure and wording, hope you find this helpful.Cheers

A vaccine is the medicine used to prevent specific infections. A vaccination is how the medicine is given to you. "I'm wondering, what are the ingredients in the flu vaccine." (what are the ingredients in the medicine used for vaccination) "It didn't hurt a bit when that pretty nurse did the vaccination." (administered the vaccine/gave you the medicine)
