The concept of Freedom has existed for millennia, and it isn't something "given" to you. It's something that you're born with, and the many Oppressive Governments try to take from you, and that all governments limit to some extent.
If your ancestors were black slaves in the South, you might give Abraham Lincoln credit for your freedom, since he issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves in the seceding states and conducted the war effort which saved the federal union. Otherwise, your freedom was the result of the American Revolution and the US Constitution and the government which resulted from it. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe all played a role in winning the revolution and setting up the new government.
