The kids.

Depends on how the parents handle it. There are happy divorces where the kid can stay and parents move in and out. If they handle it bad and the kids don't have access to both parents it's the kids who suffer but it can also be the parents who's future is gone and they find themselves left and cheated on. They have a bigger future to rebuild on their own without help.

How do you talk your parents out of a divorce?

You can't talk your parents out of a divorce. You aren't aware of all the factors that have led them to the divorce nor are you able to understand them. Is it weird that you want your parents to get a divorce?

Psychological studies show that children are adversely affected by their parents' divorce. In fact, the negative effect has been shown to be greater than being in a family where the parents stay together, even if the relationship is strained and their parents don't get along. However, wanting your parents to get divorce doesn't make you weird, especially if your parents have a very dysfunctional, strained or unhealthy relationship. Given that 50% of marriages end in divorce, divorced parents are becoming more and more common. In the end, the decision is up to the parents, of course. But it may be a good idea to share your concerns or feelings with one of both of your parents. Most children do not want their parents to divorce. This desire probably reflects a difficult atmosphere at the child's home. If one of your parents is abusing the other (i.e. hitting them, intimidating them, being overly controlling, beating them, locking them up, or otherwise harming or mistreating them), you should contact social services or speak with an adult you can trust (like a teacher or family friend).

In what ways can children be affected by a divorce between parents?

Children can sometimes wind up with emotional and trust issues. They sometimes feel like it is their fault that their parents are divorcing, even though it may not be. They can act out more, do to them not understanding everything that is going on. They can feel hurt, anger, resentment and more emotions that they don't know how to deal with.

Why do parents not get divorced?

That depends on many things. They may stay together for their children, so that the kids don't have to make a lot of choices such as: who's house do we stay at, how long do we stay at each house, who gets custody, who gets to claim them on their income taxes, etc etc. People might want to avoid all the hassle of getting a divorce. There can also be an emotional side to it, for example some parents might think it sets the worst possible example of marriage to their children if they get divorced. Some believe that the children of divorced parents become more likely to get a divorce themselves. Finally, the parents might hold off on a divorce in hopes that they can resolve their differences and become less incompatible.

How can you tell if your parents are getting a divorce?

The only way you can know for sure is if they tell you that they are getting a divorce. If they argue and yell at each other every day they may eventually get a divorce, but they might not.
