Australia took Wilkes Station over from the USA in 1959. When it became evident that Wilkes would be buried by deepening ice, and work was commenced on Repstat in 1964. It was renamed to Casey Station when it became fully operational in February 1969, and the old Wilkes station was decommissioned.
