Answer There are several British Regimental Cap Badges that are shaped like a Maltese Cross over the years. This shape was common for Rifle regiments and I have three types in my collection: King's Royal Rifle Corps. The Sherwood Forestes had a Maltese Cross with a reclining deer in the center(no wreath). In the current British Army, this badge would be worn by the Royal Green Jackets. Its badge is a Maltese Cross within a Wreath. So it could be a markmanship badge issued either by a State for that State's National Guard soldier. Or it could be a marksman badge issued for competition. I think soldiers could wear these non-regulation badges on some occasions. What do you mean by "ore pin"? The question says, in part, that it may not be a medal but a "pin". If it's brass, circular in shape, with the crossed rifles in it, than it is simply a branch insignia for the US infantry.

Badge with Cross and Crossed Swords can fit several different things. Polishregimental badges prior to WW2 used the Maltese Cross symbol and many had swords---but not many had Crowns. It could possibly be a Medal issued by a country. Germany's Spanish Cross was a Maltese Cross that came in two versions; one with crossed swords and one without. But these had an Eagle and Swastika between each "arm" of the cross. No Crown. The size might help. The British wore a collar insignia ("collar dog") that was a miniature variant of their Cap Badge. They were different in many cases and there may be such a badge for this purpose. Also, the position of the Crown would be helpful: most British badges had the Crown resting on top of the badge.
