Revere never got to his destination, but Prescott and Dawes also rode that night. Dawes fell off his horse leaving Prescott to finish the ride to Concord. Revere was stopped by a British patrol and his horse taken from him. The only reason we know about him is because Longfellow in 1860 wrote a poem called The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. On the eve of the civil war he was trying to remind people of American history. A young man by the name of Israel Bissel actually rode more miles than Revere or Prescott and killed a horse doing it. He is a true hero.
