His old friend Alan Badeau
Ulysses S. Grant.
Ulysses S. Grant was the first president to write his memoirs.
no
After Grant's presidency, he made many bad investments and lost allot of money. He was financially in dire straits. Mark Twain, aka Samuel Clemens came to Grant's rescue by helping him write his memoirs. The book sold so well that Grant became a wealthy man.
There has been ongoing debate about this for many years. What we do know is that the famous author Mark Twain approached President Grant about writing his memoirs. We also know that Twain did some (what he claimed to be minor) editing of the manuscript before the final version was published. However, Twain always denied that he wrote the memoirs, and even denied that he helped with anything other than light editing. And Grant's supporters always insisted that it was he alone who did all the writing. This may be one of these stories where we will never fully know the truth, but the memoir was released in 1885 and it sold well. To this day, Grant's Memoirs are still appreciated by historians and students.
Very calm. He was quite happy to give briefings and write reports under fire. Someone said "Ulysses don't scare worth a d**n."
The U.S. president who had his memoirs published by Mark Twain in 1885 is Ulysses S. Grant. Twain published Grant's memoirs through his publishing company, Charles L. Webster & Company. The memoirs, titled "Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant," became a highly successful and critically acclaimed work.
Ulysses Grant only wrote one book, his autobiography. The Library of America edition has the ISBN of 0-940450-58-5 should someone want search on line for it. It is of a handy size and contains both volumes of the memoirs and includes selected letters written to his wife, subordinates, congressmen, and Abraham Lincoln. It is a must read for the student of General Grant and the US Civil War.
no i cant write +++ You might not, but otherwise there is no reason why a son cannot write a biography of either of his parents.
Abraham did not write his biography. He said almost nothing about his family or upbringlng.
Sargent did not write his biography.
In his last years, US Grant had not written about his experiences in the US Civil War. Mark Twain, real name was Samuel Clemens, assisted Grant and his Memoirs were published in 1885. It became an immediate best seller and rescued Grant from the financial problems he had.
